Life works in mysterious ways and when I dropped a heavy stainless steel water bottle on my foot, that left my toe injured to the point, that I could barely walk, I thought why not just do a water fast to accelerate healing and also because the challenge I was doing, could not be completed with the injury. My blood pressure, was measuring over 200 and there didn't seem to be any reason not to do a water fast. Initially, I was aiming for 10 days but as the fast went on, something profound shifted in me, that I was undergoing a spiritual and physical metamorphosis, that the person that would emerge on the other side of the water fast, would be fundamentally changed.
I wasn't just expelling toxins, that were being released as visceral fat that surround organs burnt up for energy, or removing the toxic waste through bile from my liver and intestines but shifting trauma and emotional pain from the very essence of my being. I was grounding in my body; every sensation I could feel, my sense of smell, sight, taste and intuition heightened. I became acutely aware of my breath and also how much energy was being harvested from me through social media.
Sometime during the fast, I got locked out of my Facebook account and the message that I received prior, was that because I was producing high quality content, Facebook would extend my reach and not long after, the system decided I needed to verify who I was. This wasn't age verification but a bio-metric scan and though I could find a workaround that wouldn't involve giving up by details, I had a sense of peace, that I was meant to let that part of me go.
I had joined Facebook because of postpartum cardiomyopathy in 2011, was an admin of multiple PPCM groups, founded a website that integrated with Facebook data and was used by medical researchers in America for patient outcomes, myheartsisters.com and it was also used in flyers by California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative and it ranked on the top of the first page of Google for PPCM, Postpartum Cardiomyopathy and Peripartum Cardiomyopathy. These were in the days, that I was a heavy facebook user and the facebook algorithm encouraged engagement and the building of relationships rather than the Ai slop, meme, political outrage and "influencer" culture it now promotes. I had no idea at the time of how Facebook was an intelligence gathering tool, that was linked to Lifelog.
"LifeLog was a project of the Information Processing Techniques Office of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) of the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD). LifeLog's aim was to compile a massive electronic database of every activity and relationship a person engaged in, including credit card purchases, web sites visited, the content of telephone calls and e-mails sent and received, scans of faxes and postal mail sent and received, instant messages sent and received, books and magazines read, television and radio selections, physical location recorded via wearable GPS sensors, biomedical data captured through wearable sensors.
The end goal of this data logging was to identify "preferences, plans, goals, and other markers of intentionality" and another of DARPA's goals for LifeLog was as a predictive function through pattern recognition.
Lifelog ended officially when Facebook began but whether you have a social media profile or not, you have a profile. A digital twin. However, there was missing information, including bio-metrics and that is where COVID-19 came in to fill the gaps."
So something that I had a lot attachment to because it was such a huge part of my life journey, where I recovered from postpartum cardiomyopathy and went on to have a baby at home, at the age of 43, and all the friendships made were suddenly cut off from me.
In February 2026, a Landmark US trial in Los Angeles, Meta (formerly Facebook) is facing major legal challenges, regarding allegations that Instagram and Facebook are designed to be addictive and harmful to children's mental health.
Often without knowing it consciously, life events can become part of your identity and in life there are cycles and seasons.
Nothing is ever permanent.
Permanence is an illusion because change is fundamental to growth and without it there is stagnation and things become toxic. The cycles of death, life and renewal is part of the human experience and letting go is necessary in order to embrace new growth.
For me, I felt that the Universe was calling me to let go of Facebook.
LONG TERM WATER FASTING FOR HEALING
Even though I had done several 7-9 day water fasts, I had never managed to break through the ten day mark and this water fast was particularly challenging where I was exhausted in the early days and releasing so many toxins.
I was surprised because I had been very strict with diet and exercise that there was so much toxicity to be released. I could smell it in my sweat and taste the foulness in my mouth. On day 5, I vomited and the nausea that I felt that day left me. At this point, I noticed the niggly issues I had like the small bump in my gums was gone, my nasal passsages felt completely clear, my blood pressure was down about 20 points but it wasn't till day 12, that the foul taste in my mouth left, and I felt my energy return.
At this point, I felt almost superhuman, energised without food and running completely on fat stores. My mind felt clear and I was able to concentrate and get work done. I even went out and did a huge shop for the family on day 16. My blood pressure continued to drop and I no longer felt the anxiety of doing a blood pressure reading and wondering how sky high it would be!!

Minimum length for a healing fast is usually greater than 7 days because in the initial phases of a fast, it is simply about detoxification not healing on a regenerative level, where your body is producing stem cells and repairing damage, which usually occurs from day 8 onwards.
The importance of rest during a water fast to mitigate the rising cortisol levels due to the body learning to use fat instead of glucose.

What I loved about Tallis Barker's approach to water fasting was it was a mix of intuition and knowledge. It's very important to understand the mechanisms of healing and to apply it to your own individual journey, so during my water fast, I did do a few enemas but only when I felt that I needed to, in order to get bowel movements every day. I also took magnesium supplements and baths when I felt my body tell me, that I needed to take them but otherwise it was just water.
Though up to day 5, I did have each morning with my water lemon juice and cayenne pepper but after vomiting it up, I didn't want to take it anymore.
Water fasting is incredibly powerful but when making such huge shifts in the body, where the body is detoxifying rapidly, it's so important to be able to listen to one's body. His approach is highly individualised and not dogmatic.
Apoptosis where the body eliminates damaged, unwanted, or aged cells without causing inflammation is so critical. The body has an amazing ability to heal, given the right ingredients and time.

The truly amazing gift we have as humans is the ability to heal and when you consider how genetically modified food is being approved, billions of dollars are being spent on mRNA technology, mRNA jabs are being introduced into on livestock and how the environment is being bombarded with toxins and bioweapon technology, detoxification isn't optional but essential, as is nutrition.
Ultimately, the code of life that is within us, wants homeostasis and to return to balance but that involves us making active choices, which involves swimming against the tide that threatens to take us over the cliff face and in doing so, we become stronger and more resilient.
EMOTIONAL HEALING AND TRAUMA RELEASE
When I began my water fast, hadn't considered the emotional side of healing. We can blunt ourselves to fully open up as a self protective mechanism and it is easy to focus on physical ailments and issues but these are symptoms of deeper trauma and emotion scars. Why do we choose to invest in so many other things instead of simply being present in our own physical bodies; not doing, but simply being?
So much of who we are can become attached to our external achievements, pleasures and goals that we seldom take the time to even ask the question, what is the end goal of all the progress, all the accumulation of stuff; whether that be physical objects, assets, money or experiences, and even relationships.
Are we truly connected to self? To what it is to be a living, breathing conscious soul?
So much time is freed up, not eating and that energy I found directed to face my inner most thoughts, memories and discovering myself under all the layers of projection and being at peace, with my life journey; in the wholeness of it all; the bitter and the sweet.
I decided to end my water fast on day 19 because my mind had become focused on an interview I was doing with Senator Alex Antic and a talk I was doing the following night, for a local group, "Achieving abundant health in a toxic world and hostile medical system" and also because my blood pressure machine ran out of batteries.
In the week, that followed, my body continues to heal and my relationship to food fundamentally changed. I am feeling incredibly positive about life and the future, and feel a real calm that I didn't know I was missing.
My cortisol and stress levels have gone down and I met a guy that told me that did I know what is the main factor that ties together all the blue zones (longevity areas) and he said "anxiety". These cultures had low levels of anxiety; everything from how their communities supported each other to how they enjoyed food.
And then I met another woman, who shared with me about how the root cause of disease is emotional and so important to find the root cause, than simply dealing with the physical expression of disease.
I really enjoyed speaking publicly and being able to connect to a local audience and get immediate feedback and answer questions candidly without the filters and censorship of social media algorithms and feel like I have greater clarity about the way ahead.
While there is much craziness and uncertainty in the world, we can find peace in the eye of the storm and navigate through it with love in our hearts.
