This Social Media Digital ID Bill and its provisions unacceptable. They should not proceed further.
The following seem to me to be the most serious things for you to think about: The risk of Digital Online ID imposed by the Bill endangers Australians' privacy rights as it requires frequent identification for online platforms, heightening the risk of identity fraud. This could lead to personal information being widely exposed and potentially misused, undermining the safeguard of their personal data.
The proposed Bill undermines Free Speech by 1) limiting anonymous Free Speech, which discourages open expression, and 2) potentially causing social media platforms to cease operations in Australia, thereby eliminating opportunities for Australians to engage in online discussions.
This approach can hinder children's ability to learn social media navigation, essential for adulthood. Not all interactions are negative; they can learn responsibility, critical thinking, and social skills. Limiting access may inhibit such opportunities, outweighing potential risks. I hope that my concerns help convince you to reject this proposal.
Regards,
Even better if you can lookup your Senator and call them.
Remind them that we will vote them out by preferencing them last, if they support this bill.
